Self Portraits
“Night After Night (It’s Not Easy)” is a retrospective on my first year living with chronic insomnia after suffering a nervous breakdown in 2021. I crumbled under stress, lost everything, and had to start all over. As the title suggests, it was far from easy. I felt like a scared, blasted-out shell of my former self. Thankfully, since then I’ve reassembled most of myself, with the support of my family and a determination to have a positive outlook on everything. Lesson: take nothing for granted.
In Spanish, “Acha” is idiomatic for “hangover”. The sufferer would place his hand on his forehead, down the bridge of his nose, like an axe splitting his skull. This is me finding myself and growing into my signature, chaotic style. I really love the smoky, foggy mountain backdrop, balanced by the placid rolling green hills.
