As with all projects, I started off with a seed of inspiration / motivation provided by my client and collaborator. In this case, Chris (Coma Girls) shot me bounces of some singles that were going to be on the album, and gave me broad strokes about what themes he was singing about. From there I took off, and Chris was gracious enough to let me have essentially free reign as far as how I’d construct my images to complement his sounds.

I really enjoyed the challenge of thematically uniting all four individual pieces into a contextual series, where the works serve to inform one another. Recurring motifs like the empty picture frames, screaming seals, and scary masks lend an air of melancholy and despair to the collective spirit of the pieces. However, as always, I strive to implant moments of lightness and whimsy into my pieces: the blue palm trees, the silly parrot, and the balance of primary colors.
